The Boneyard Holds Grand Opening
Culver City's new dog park, known as The Boneyard, held grand opening ceremonies on Saturday, April 22.

Major Expansion Underway at Doggie Central
Doggie Central has launched a major expansion. A 3500 sq. ft. addition will bring our services and play area to 8500 sq. ft. and will allow us to expand our park areas and offer new services including private doggie suites and a new doggie valet service. Doggie valets will greet our canine guests at their owner's cars and usher them into Doggie Central.
We have already expanded our grooming services with a full time groom on staff, and we will be adding additional on-site training services in the fall.
New Dog Park Coming to Culver City
A ground breaking ceremony was held Saturday, July 23, to mark the beginning of construction on a dog park in Culver City. Doggie Central is among the donors making the new Culver City dog park a reality. The project will bring important run and play space to the community. A grand opening is planned for Nov. 2005.

New Doggie
Central Floors Offer Safety and Comfort for Your
Pet
A slip-resistant, urethane rubber floor has been installed
here at Doggie Central. The new flooring creates a sanitary
barrier that is easy to clean and offers sound insulation properties
as well.
Developed using a breakthrough "new technology" urethane
rubber, the thickness and shock absorbing qualities of the
flooring also make it easier on the legs and feet of both our
four-legged guests and our two-legged staff!

Doggie Central, a cage-free facility in Culver City, offers
canines and their
human
friends a playful pet-sitting environment.
The scene on a recent Saturday afternoon was a group of clean,
happy dogs bouncing around in spacious, but safely gated areas
with each other and greeting human visitors with smiles.
They're safe and secure, without being trapped in cages. Faith
Mantooth of Westchester, affectionately nicknamed "The
Dog Lady", has owned and operated the 5,000 square foot
center for six years. She offers dog clients daycare, boarding,
walking, grooming, anesthesia-free teeth cleaning, training,
and parties.
"I've done a lot of bark mitzvahs and birthday parties
with dog cakes and ice cream," Mantooth said. "It's
so fun to get a bunch of dogs and people having fun together."
Mantooth, a certified dog trainer for 14 years, opened the
Teale Street business when more and more of her training clients
needed overnight care. Cage-free was becoming popular, and
Mantooth took a chance.
"This is not a money business, but a down-to-earth one," Mantooth
said. "But fortunately, things have always gone well."
Along with 15 employees, Mantooth keeps a close eye on her
furry charges. She usually serves about 35 dogs on the weekends
and up to 60 during the week. Someone is always on-site, and
the facility is well-protected with its entirely cinder block
structure and full sprinkler system.
Before a dog is accepted for daycare or boarding, he is interviewed
for temperament. Vaccinations are required, as is spaying or
neutering for those over a year old.
Mantooth has many repeat clients, and several of them recently
expressed their satisfaction with her service. One of them
was Judith Gertler.
"Our family is very lucky that Faith Mantooth has played
such an important role in the life of our Golden Retriever," Gertler
said. "She has greatly contributed to our enjoyment of
him as a member of our family. We are totally confident when
we leave our dog at Faith's...and he loves to stay there when
we are away."
As Mantooth talks about her business and her own four Labrador
Retrievers: Kenya, Soda Cracker, Crispy Crème, and Fine
China, dog clients of all sizes flock around "The Dog
Lady" with happily wagging tails. "I love how happy
I make the dogs and owners," Mantooth said. "My employees
love dogs. It really takes a special kind of person to work
here."
Eunice Oh started working at Doggie Central in October. "I
love doing this service and helping people have peace of mind
about their pets," Oh said. "To many, these dogs
are their children."
When Mantooth is not busy caring for all her dog friends,
she teaches training classes at Manhattan Beach, plays with
Mouser the car, and raises her daughter Madisen as a single
mom.
The energetic Mantooth doesn't stop there. Through Doggie
Central, she has contributed $1,500 to buy a bench for the
Culver City Dog Park, found homes for displaced dogs, and helped
several charities such as Paws L.A.
She has truly earned her nickname.
